Microsoft announced that they will be giving away Windows OS for free to OEMs developing devices with less than 9-inches, this shows just how serious about getting tablet market share Microsoft has become. Microsoft aimed to decrease the Windows tablet price by removing the Windows licensing for OEMs. At COMPUTEX, a Chinese OEM called Emdoor has announced EM-i8080 Windows tablet which is the world’s First $100 Windows Tablet.
If you are like me and love getting new tech toys this maybe the next gadget to look at. For $100 I am expecting to get what I pay for but I have also wanted to play with the new Windows 8.1 Mobile OS for a while now.
The specs for the EM-i8080 look half decent too:
- 8-inch display
- 1280 x 800 IPS technology
- 1GB RAM
- 16GB SSD
- Intel’s 1.33GHz – 1.8GHz Bay Trail SoC(Intel Atom Z3735G)
- A microSD slot, Micro USB and Mini HDMI
- Stereo speakers,
- Camera
- 18.5Wh battery
- Weight – 355 gms.
This is the first big step from Microsoft to bring down the costs of Windows tablets. Hopefully, this will help drive down the cost of their competition and bring more OEMS to join the race.
